Rye St Anthony, Oxford
An all day, drawing, mixed media and textile workshop for GCSE Art and Textile students.
Working from natural and man made objects like shells, seed heads, skulls, taps, broken clocks, cogs etc students explored alternative drawing techniques. These included blind drawing, opposite hand, wire and timed. Materials varied from fine liner to sticks and ink.
These were developed into stitch work, using hand stitching and freehand machining, transparent fabrics and papers.
Many of the paper surfaces were created in the morning using a range of found paper surfaces, rubbings, washes and other frottage techniques.
Once dry they could be worked over and collaged together using stitching and layering.
The workshop aims were to generate new drawing and media techniques and ways of developing and extending recording.
