Robert Smythe Academy, Market Harborough, Leicester
An all day, drawing, and textile workshop for AS and A Level Textile students. Working with personal resources based on the student’s own project themes, ways of recording were explored.
Timed drawing, carbon paper drawing and working with wire, enabled students to quickly produce a number of drawings to develop later on in the day.
The drawing techniques were developed with working in a specific environment like a museum, outdoors or when the subject matter is moving or only available for a short time. These were developed in an open-ended exploratory way using poly-tile printing, repetition, hand and machine stitching and text and plastic manipulation. Analysis, evaluation and shared feedback were built into the day’s activities.
The workshop aims were to develop recording skills, exploit opportunities for experimentation and generic ways of responding to a personal theme.
